April was filled with way too many holidays and chocolate, so here are some great weight loss tips and tricks to help you recover from that and also tackle the winter months, where weight gain seems to be as inevitable as the colder weather for some…

1). SNEAKY DRINKING TRICK FOR MAY

Replace fruit juice with fruit.

- Fruit juice isn’t as healthy as most people think it is mainly because it has a lot of sugar in it. If you do have to drink fruit juice, squeeze it yourself and ensure it has some of the pulp in it for added fibre. Or even better, drink water and just eat the fruit instead. The whole fruit provides your body with much needed fibre as well as a better assimilation of vitamins and minerals.

2). SNEAKY EATING TRICK FOR MAY

Eat Avocados.

- Many people think they have to stay away from avocados due to their high fat content. This is definitely a mistake as the monounsaturated fat in avocados actually boosts your muscle-feeding and fat-melting hormones, keeps your insulin levels balanced, enhances calcium absorption, and has huge amounts of potassium (a mineral that’s helpful with weight loss and lowering blood pressure – but is deficient in most people’s diets). You can cut up the avocado and add it to salads and sandwiches or make some delicious guacamole by adding some tomatoes, coriander, lime, and chilli’s / peppers.

3). SNEAKY SHOPPING TIP FOR MAY

Buy grass-fed meats.

- If you do eat red meat, try and look for the free-range, grass fed variety. These will be higher in conjugated linoleic acid or CLA which is a natural “fat-burning fat”.

4). SNEAKY EXERCISE TRICK FOR MAY

Workout early in the morning if you can.

- When you exercise like we advise at Fitness Boot Camp (check out the metabolism makeover programme resources), you stimulate your metabolism and ensure it is elevated for long after your training. So, by exercising in the morning, you can have a higher metabolism and burn more calories throughout the day. You also get your exercise DONE for the day, which means if anything comes up later you do not run the risk of losing out on your workout

5). SNEAKY MOTIVATION TIP FOR MAY

Make your weight loss and fitness transformation public.

- Some of the people you tell will show you extra support by encouraging you or not tempting you with things you shouldn’t be eating. You may even find that some join you in your quest to lose weight and get fitter and you will gain an extra level of accountability and support. Now, there is a whole other side to this because making your weight loss public takes a lot of guts, as it harnesses one of the most powerful motivators out there…embarrassment. It’s so much easier to quit when you know that no one else is watching. It’s so much harder when you’re worried about what your colleagues, family and friends will think if you throw in the towel.

That’s it for another month of sneaky weight loss tips and tricks.

Remember, pick a few of these and focus on making them a part of your routine. Reinforce these little changes every day until they become habits. Within a few short weeks, you’ll have developed healthier habits that come naturally and will support your long term weight loss goals. It’s amazing how little changes in your life can add up to you losing five, ten, fifteen or more kilograms over time…

Leave me your comments about any tips and tricks you’ve tried or how you are getting on with implementing the sneaky tips and tricks I shared in March…

Most people’s exercise routines go into hibernation during the winter months. We eat more and we exercise less…and justify it with all sorts of things like:

- it’s too cold or too dark to exercise

- I need to eat more to give my body more energy to stay warm during winter

This winter exercise hibernation is then followed in a few months by a frantic resurgence of the exercise routine and diet. These behaviours are often fueled by the realisation that you may have to wear a little less in summer and you would like the extra bits that are revealed to look more appealing than they do right now!!

So what then should you be doing?

You could save yourself a lot of trouble by finding a way to continue your exercise and eating plan throughout winter. If you do, getting fitter, healthier and sexier for the summer months is a lot easier!!

In fact, at our boot camp programme we have already had a few people with weight loss results of up to 14kg in the last few months. They are also determined to continue this throughout winter and not let it slip.

So, what is their secret to exercising and eating well?

ACCOUNTABILITY

Yes, it’s a big word that is perhaps the best way for you to keep going during winter. Find a friend, colleague or family member to help you get through winter. You could even sign up with a personal trainer or join a boot camp programme such as ours in order to emerge from the winter months fitter, healthier and sexier!!

Let me know your thoughts, challenges and successes by leaving your comments below…

Change is inevitable…it happens all the time. Things change…people change. But, most people don’t like to change.

Last week Friday, my daughter, Katie (2 years old) did not want to change. Now, the change she didn’t want to make was “out of her pajamas and into her clothes to go to school”.

The process of “change” is not easy. If you want to change then it is very important to surround yourself with the right people. People who will support, encourage and mentor you to become the person you want to…

I do not like to force people to change. You cannot force people to change until they are ready for it.

Angela (my wife) and I had experienced Katie’s reluctance to change before. We have learned to pick our battles. And, this time we were ready…So, Katie went to school in her pajamas.

Of course, Angela and I had a plan in place. We packed Katie’s clothes in her school bag, and the teacher was briefed, as we knew that at some stage she would want to change. That time came a little later in the day and Katie made the “change” and looked and felt extra special.

I have realised that the same principles apply in helping people change their health and fitness. You have to wait until they are ready to change. And when they are, you provide them with everything they need in order to look and feel amazing.

Fitness Boot Camp launches it’s Transformation Contest: “The Biggest Improver” on 5 October. If you are ready to make a serious change then visit www.GetSexyBootCamps.co.za to find out how you can get fitter, healthier and sexier.

At our last Biggest Improver Contest, Winston Robertson (winner) and Tanya Miseroole (runner-up) made some incredible changes. They both lost over 8kg and achieved some amazing improvements in fitness. In fact, we even renamed an exercise after Winston…

Winston and Tanya will be back on the 5 October to help inspire and encourage YOU to get the results that you deserve…come and change with us…

What is the secret to unstoppable motivation?

This morning’s boot camp was the perfect demonstration of “unstoppable motivation”.

If you live in Cape Town, you awoke this morning to a torrential downpour. It was raining so hard I could hardly see as i was driving to boot camp at 05h40 this morning.

Despite the awful weather, the boot campers arrived as usual and tackled their workout with an enthusiasm second to none!!

What got them out of bed? What made them brave torrential rain…the freezing cold? What is their secret…?

Welll, it is quite simple. They did not want to let each other down…!! When you join a group of like-minded people who have similar goals to you they help you get there.

The boot campers have a great sense of camaraderie and support each other. They also hold each other accountable…that is the secret to their unstoppable motivation.

So, my advice for the day:

Decide what you want and then seek out and join a group of like-minded people. It will change your life and ensure you achieve the results you deserve…!!

Do you have a plan? Do you stick to your plan? Check out these guys and please tell me your situation is better than this...

Having a plan is crucial…Sticking to it is even more important.

Check out these poor guys…

These guys were setting steel pillars in concrete to prevent vehicles from parking on the pavement. They are now cleaning up after a hard days work and a job “well done”. How long do you think it will be before they realise where their vehicle is parked…?

Now, I am not sure whether these guys:
1). Had a PLAN, but just didn’t stick to it…
2). Had NO PLAN
3). Had NO IDEA…?!

Either way they now have a big problem.

Many of us adopt the same approach with our health and fitness. And only wake up when we really have a problem…

The lesson:
1). Make a plan to improve your health and fitness…NOW
2). Stick to the plan
3). Ask for help

Let me know your thoughts on this one…
