Some Inspiration from the Comrades Marathon

Want some inspiration to help you achieve your health and fitness goals?

For those avid runners out there, you will know that the Comrades Marathon was run yesterday. For those who are not sure what it is, it is a road race that was run yesterday from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. Yes, you read right…from Pietermaritzburg to Durban…that is 89km!! Next year competitors will run it from Durban to Pietermaritzburg (87km). And so it goes from year to year.

Now, however crazy that seems, we can draw a little inspiration from the Comrades Marathon.

It was won by a South African, Ludwick Mamabola – for the first time in 7 years. And there were many many novice finishers. A novice finisher is someone who is running the race for the very first time.

Now, if running an 89km race and finishing it in under 12 hours was not inspiration enough for you, then perhaps this will inspire you…

Many of these runners would have started their Comrades dream about this time last year, by making a decision…a decision that would change their lives for the next 12 months – Because you cannot run the Comrades (89km) without some serious preparation and training.

We can take away a rather inspiring lesson from all our Comrades runners:

That if you want to achieve something it takes hard and consistent work. And, the interesting thing is that the harder you work for a specific goal, the more satisfying it is once you achieve that goal.

So, well done to all our Comrades runners!! And, to all those people wanting to achieve something great over the next year…whether it is to lose some weight, improve your fitness, run a 10km race or even the Comrades Marathon:

Start today with a BIG commitment to your goal and a small step towards it. These small actions made consistently will ensure that next year this time you have achieved something GREAT!! And know that when the going gets tough, there are many others just like you working to achieve something great and let that encourage and inspire you to keep going towards your goal!!
