What is the Best Exercise?

I am often asked: “What is the best exercise?”

And my answer is always the same: “It depends…”

What I mean is that it depends on what your goals are. Now any exercise is better than no exercise and today I did my favourite exercise…

I got active with my family. I believe there is no better way to get active than while spending time with friends and family.

Liam, my 5 year old son, and I went for a run and cycle. I ran and he rode his bike. We spent about 50 minutes just enjoying the outdoors and each other’s company. Liam gets really talkative on these rides which is great. I get to hear about everything that he has been up to during the week…and get the opportunity to spend a bit of time “in his world”…an absolute privilege!!

I also had another great experience this week. Since it is school holidays a few of my personal training clients brought their children with to their workout.

Gabi had a really tough workout as Jack (her 5 year old son) became her resistance for most of the exercises. Jack’s favourites were the bench press (where he was “pressed”) and running with a resistance band.

And then Bruce brought Michael (8 years old) and Chloe (2 years old). Chloe just loved the treadmill.

What a pleasure it was to be able to demonstrate the importance of being active to our children through getting active with them…
